Mode of Action
Fluroxypyr-Meptyl is a systemic and selective herbicide made from pyridinoxy acid and is used
to control annual and perennial broadleaf weeds and woody brush. It is a member of the pyridine
class of herbicides and induces an auxin-type response in susceptible annual and perennial
broadleaf weeds.
It operates like a plant growth regulator by imitating natural plant hormones called auxins.
Auxins, which are found in all plant types, are responsible for regulating the amount, type and
direction of plant growth, and are mostly found at the tips of plant roots and shoots. Fluroxypyr-
Meptyl enters plants that have been treated through the leaves and roots, and replaces natural auxins at binding sites, causing abnormal growth patterns and disrupting the growth
processes of the plant and eventual plant death.
Mesotrione inhibits the HPPD enzyme (p-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase) and introduces
a new naturally selective tool into weed-management programs for use in maize. Mesotrione
provides control of the major broad-leaved weeds, and it can be used in integrated
weed-management programs.
Nicosulfuron is rapidly absorbed by leaf tissue and is translocated meristems via the phloem
and xylem. Nicosulfuron controls weeds by inhibiting acetolactate synthase (ALS), also called
acetohydroxy acid synthase (AHAS). ALS is a necessary enzyme for the production of three
branched-chain amino acids, isoleucine, leucine, and valine.
Application Guide
Application timing: Apply MONOLITH 220 SE as Early post emergence herbicide when the crop is 2-5 leaf stage. Ensure the weeds are actively growing for good efficacy of the products. ONLY single application per growing season.
