Greenlife Crop Protection Africa on 19th December, 2017 signed a pledge to donate insecticides and fungicides valued at KES 13.7 million to Makueni County. The donation of three different types of fungicides and one insecticide will be made during the 2017/2018 agricultural calendar of the county.
The pledge is an assurance of a partnership aimed at fostering business and government ties while ensuring food security and agricultural sustainability between Greenlife Crop Protection Africa and the county government of Makueni. The insecticide and fungicides, the farm inputs in the pledge will benefit subsistence farmers whose focus is on maize and green grams, the main crops in the region.
When explaining the partnership, Festus K L Mwaniki, Managing Director of Greenlife Crop Protection Africa said, “We have pledged to donate 22,000 pieces of Domain 250EC valued at KES 3.3M, 22,000 pieces of Milestone 250SC valued at KES 4.4M and 30,000 pieces of Ransom 600WP valued at KES 1.8M. The insecticide, Alonze 50EC, will be 30,000 pieces valued at 4.2M. Through this partnership, we hope to boost the output levels of Makueni farmers by providing them with quality insecticides and fungicides to help control disease infections and insect pests that have proven a menace to the farmers in the past.”
The fungicides and insecticides will help curb rust, northern leaf blight, anthracnose, powdery mildew, root knot nematodes, spider mites, leafminers and thrips which have resulted in reduced yields in the past. The partnership will also substitute efforts of Makueni residents who have previously been adversely affected by crop diseases.
